Germany's musical life
Germany's musical life is noteworthy in equal measure for its rich history and its wide array of contemporary currents. It has never been concentrated in a few towns, regions or institutions. Given the diversity of Germany's musical landscape, it is especially worthwhile to gather information in a single place. This responsibility has been assumed by the German Music Information Centre (MIZ), the authoritative source for facts on every aspect of Germany's musical life. Anyone wishing to learn about Germany's many orchestras and music theatres, or its musical training and advanced education programmes, or amateur music-making and the music industry, will find a wealth of information at the MIZ.
“Popcast” presents German Pop Music
A monthly “Popcast” programme will present details of new releases, tour schedules and individual concerts by German bands, musicians and DJs. Moderated by “Zündfunk” music journalists, podcast focuses on non-mainstream musicians and bands such as Mr. John Soda, Leroy and Die Nerven.
With its music-related work, the Goethe Institute seeks to give a global audience an idea of the wide range of genres and outstanding artists the German music scene has to offer and to initiate an intercultural artistic dialogue. Since 1961, the Goethe Institue has been organizing musical events featuring professional ensembles that perform chamber music and lieder as well as performers from the jazz, pop, rock and electronic music genres.
“Zündfunk”, too, has traditionally been involved in promoting Germany’s domestic music scene, winning the “PICK UP 2003” and the “Bayerischer Popkomm-Musiklöwe 2005” awards for its commitment to furthering Bavaria and Germany’s reputation as a pop music Location.
