The International Coastal Clean-Up is globally the largest volunteer effort to clean up the marine environment and is coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy office of Pollution Prevention and Monitoring of Virginia, U.S.A. In Trinidad and Tobago the ICC is coordinated by the Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development. In 2004 , a National Planning Committee of Trinidad and Tobago was established to facilitate the active involvement of various stakeholders, both government and non-governmental in the national clean up exercise, towards building public awareness and promoting behavioural change with respect to indiscriminate solid waste disposal and its negative impact on the marine environment.

This year the German Embassy joined the European Union Team among other European Missions and members of UNHCR in Trinidad and Tobago.
